A Finite Capacity Priority Queue with Discouragement
In this paper we report on a study of a two level preemptive priority queue with balking and reneging for lower priority level. The inter-arrival and the service times for both levels follow exponential distribution. We use a finite difference equation approach for solving the balance equations of the governing queuing model whose states are described by functions of one independent variable. H...
متن کاملA Priority Queue with the Working-set Property
A new priority queue is introduced, for which the cost to insert a new item is constant and the cost to delete the item x with the minimum value is O(log kx), where kx is the number of items that are inserted after x and are still in the heap when x is deleted. We achieve the above bounds in both the amortized case and the worst case.
متن کاملAnalysis of a Discrete-Time Queue with Gated Priority
This paper considers a discrete-time queue with gated priority. Low priority customers arrive at the first queue at the gate in batches according to a batch Bernoulli process (BBP). When the gate opens, all low priority customers at the first queue move to the second queue at a single server. On the other hand, high priority customers directly join the second queue upon arrival. The arrival pro...
متن کاملReal-Time Heuristic Search with a Priority Queue
Learning real-time search, which interleaves planning and acting, allows agents to learn from multiple trials and respond quickly. Such algorithms require no prior knowledge of the environment and can be deployed without pre-processing. We introduce Prioritized-LRTA* (P-LRTA*), a learning real-time search algorithm based on Prioritized Sweeping. P-LRTA* focuses learning on important areas of th...
متن کاملA Discrete-Time HOL Priority Queue with Multiple Traffic Classes
Priority scheduling for packets is a hot topic, as interactive (voice, video) services are being integrated in existing data networks. In this paper, we consider a discrete-time queueing system with nonpreemptive (or Head-Of-the-Line) priority scheduling and a general number of priority classes. Packets of variable length arrive in the queueing system. We derive expressions for the probability g...
